I’ve found myself re-creating some of the same deconstruction and upgrade planners every time I start a new game. Turns out you can put those in blueprint books, and I’ve compiled everything into a single book you can put in your blueprint library and keep in a hotbar slot for easy access any time.
The book is organized into sections grouped by type of planner.
Deconstruction Planners
- Deconstruct All: Does everything, including tiles.
- Tiles Only: Tiles only. Nothing special here.
- Leave Grid: Used with my Grid System blueprint book that I will finish someday. Leaves behind the roboports, substations, lamps, and any pipes that happen to be around, so you can deconstruct an entire city block while leaving the infrastructure that ties the base together.
- Trees+Rocks, Cliffs Only, and Trees+Rocks+Cliffs, for various landscaping duties.
- Ghosts: Useful for when you want to measure how many unbuilt items you need to carry to finish off a blueprint, or for scanning over a build to find unbuilt ghosts. I use the blueprint shotgun mod, so sometimes a few things will get left behind, and upgrading items leaves the old items on the ground, and this can find those as well.
Upgrade Planners
- All to X Belt: Converts every belt into the selected color. Not sure why you’d ever want to downgrade from green to yellow belt, but this can do that anyway. Also bear in mind that downgrading underground belts will downgrade the items but if the connection is too long for the lower tier, the belt will not connect through.
- Stone to Steel Smelter: A one-click solution for upgrading your stone furnace arrays to steel. Does the furnaces as well as yellow to red belts.
- Assembler 2 and 3: Converts all assemblers to the chosen tier. Not quite as useful now with Space Age, considering you are probably upgrading from assembler 2s to SA buildings, but going from tier 1 to tier 2 has come in handy a lot in my 100x science cost playthrough.
- Inserter step-wise upgrades: Upgrades (or downgrades, with right click drag) inserters by one tier.
- Add X module: Converts empty module slots to normal quality tier 1 modules of the selected type. Useful for putting initial modules in labs or miners, among other things.
Future Versions
There’s a few things I haven’t added that I might get to at some point. This will probably also coincide with further development of the city block blueprint book.
- Power poles: Wooden to medium power poles is a possible upgrade option but I didn’t find it very useful – if you’re already using wooden poles, upgrading to medium poles doesn’t really change a build, and if you want to use medium poles for their longer connection distance, you’re tearing out all the wooden poles anyway. But I may include it just to have a more complete set of planners.
- Quality. Everything is using normal quality so far, and I would like to add options to upgrade buildings to higher quality tiers.
- Modules: Along with quality, there are a lot of combinations of module tier + quality to account for, and I’m not sure how best to organize those at the moment.
- Sub-books: The primary city block blueprint book only contains other blueprint books, organized by category. As the list of prints in this book increases, I may organize things into sub-books to keep things neat.
Okay just give me the blueprint string already
Here it is. I have only tested this with space age, but it should work in vanilla (it should just show missing recipe icons for the SA-exclusive items).
This book is also available on Factorio Prints where you can leave feedback.
